Mykola Tomenko: Public Control will facilitate Reconstruction of "Olimpiysky" National Sports Complex
Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that public and parliamentary control will facilitate timely reconstruction of "Olimpiysky" National Sports Complex.
On Monday, 14 September, a round table discussion on the topic "How to complete the Reconstruction of "Olimpiysky" National Sports Complex" will be held at the Parliament. Leaders of the special inquiry panel of The Verkhovna Rada and the officials responsible for the preparation for EURO-2012 will attend the round table discussion.
The participants will make an attempt to settle the complicated issues concerning reconstruction, i.e. the date of promulgation of the final reconstruction draft of "Olimpiysky" National Sports Complex, the resolution of the officials to remove track and field lanes at the reconstructed stadium, the future of the public enterprises at the national sports complex.
Mykola Tomenko stressed that the public and parliamentary control over the preparation of objects to EURO-2012 would have to warn the officials against potential violations of effective legislation. Thus, M.Tomenko reminded of the regulation of the Law "On Physical Culture and Sports" that prohibits elimination and restructuring of the physical culture and sports institutions, Olympic and Paralympic training facilities, physical training and sports establishments, therapeutic physical training institutions, unless they are in private ownership. The violators of the regulation shall bear both civil and criminal responsibility.
Mykola Tomenko, Vice-Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, believes that participants of the round table discussion will determine the essence of public and parliamentary control over the reconstruction, observance of schedule and legitimate use of funds. "It is a real efficient control, that was substituted by the on-line broadcast of works at the stadium", - he stated.
A round table discussion on the topic "How to complete the Reconstruction of "Olimpiysky" National Sports Complex" will be held on 14 September 2009, at 12 a.m. at the conference hall of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine (5 Hrushevskoho St.; entrance by accreditation cards).
